Han River aka River of Doom

It is not secret why the Han River is often called the “River of Doom” in K-Dramaland. Often, if people are near the river this means bad news.
People are murdered here, commit suicide, plan evil deeds, break up, cry their hearts out over a lost love, reflect about negative things in their lives, or mope near the Han River.

But good things can happen here, too. This is where the romance happens, where people go to shoot firecrackers, or meet their lover. Also, some people go here to find some quit five minutes. For them sitting quietly on a bank facing the Han River before going home makes them “be human and not a machine” as Ahn Mi Jung puts it in Five Children (2016, E22)

Jogging, bicycling or just hanging out with your lover or friends are also favorite past times done along the Han River.
